TRAPPED NERVES

The term “trapped nerve” means that you have a nerve somewhere in your body that is pinched or compressed.  A trapped nerve can cause considerable pain, as well as weakness, numbness and other symptoms depending on the spot where the nerve is trapped.

Pinched nerves can occur anywhere in the body but most typically occur in the neck, lower back or mid back. Pain from trapped nerves in these areas will occur in other parts of the body where the nerve leads to, such as the hands, arms, legs and feet.

Nerves normally become trapped when vertebrae in the back become misaligned and the discs begin to bulge. The disc will then compress the nerve causing it to get irritated, when this happens it is called Sciatica.

This type of injury or condition is one of the most common causes of back problems and trapped nerves and is responsible for more missed work than almost any other type of injury.

There are many causes of trapped nerve in neck. In younger people this could be the result of a herniated or slipped disc. This condition can be diagnosed with the use of an MRI scan, though in many cases a simple physical examination will be sufficient. If you are diagnosed early enough it is possible to get the kind of treatment you need to relieve the pressure and relocate the nerve back into its proper position, which should end the pain once and for all.

A slipped disc is not the only cause of a trapped nerve in neck areas, you can sleep in the wrong position and wake up with a pinched nerve that leaves you unable to move your head or shoulders.  This is probably the most common cause of a pinched nerve in your neck and can be the easiest to fix.

There are several different natural treatments that have been proven to help relieve the pain that comes with a trapped nerve in the neck including acupuncture, manipulation and massage therapy.

Your chiropractor will use some or all of these treatments with you in a normal session, depending on your preferences and the severity of your condition. Instead of relying on medications that numb your mind at the same time as they dull the pain from the trapped nerve in your neck, speak to us and lets see if we can change the course of your pain.

Not only are they drug free, but in most cases you may find them to be far more effective, and should always be considered as an 1st option to avoid the need for surgery.

If you have ever been woken with the pain from a trapped nerve in the neck then you know how hard it can be to function with this pain. In most cases the pain may start in the neck, but it soon radiates into one shoulder or the other and may even travel on into the arm in the form of pain, weakness or numbness.

This can be both extremely painful and debilitating. Without the proper treatment your days could be very difficult to deal with and sleep almost impossible to come by.

NECK PAIN & TRAPPED NERVES

I am a 65 year old man and 1st visited Alex Bowling when I had considerable pain in my neck, which transmitted down my arm.  A locum I had seen at my Doctors practice seemed to dismiss me as another patient with a bad back.

Due to the medication I am already taking I was unable to take the anti-inflammatory drugs to help relieve the pain. I therefore sought help from a different quarter and went to see Alex.

After listening to my details he took two X-rays, which confirmed the diagnosis of a trapped nerve. After 1 session the relief was considerable and it only took 6 sessions to get my neck back to normal.

I would recommend Alex Bowling very highly as a very skilled Chiropractor having received professional and effective treatment from him.

It is the job of your chiropractor to diagnose and treat misalignments and injuries to the back and the compressed nerves that are a result of these problems.

Often your chiropractor can relieve the symptoms and correct the problem without the intervention of drugs or surgery making it the preferred treatment for many people.

However, you are likely to be in pain for several days. Alternating heating pads and ice packs will help to alleviate the swelling and the inflammation that accompany a pinched nerve.

Much as a physiotherapist, your Chiropractor will also provide you with a series of home exercises to maintain the mobility regained after treatment.

SLIPPED DISC AND NECK PAIN

Alex has rescued me several times over the last few years – most recently when I slipped a disc in my neck.

His approach to treatment and the realistic time frames for recovery have helped me to manage my pain and I’m sure contributed to getting back to normal as quickly as possible. Treatment was always delivered with a smile.

Trust between you and your Chiropractor is key and I would trust Alex implicitly.

SCIATICA & TRAPPED NERVES.

When I 1st went to see Alex Bowling I was suffering with numbness and severe pain down my left leg. I couldn’t walk very far without having to sit down as the pain was so bad.

After a few months of treatment I cannot believe the improvement in my condition. I still get the occasional pain, but nothing I can’t cope with.  Excellent diagnosis and treatment of my condition.

Like most people, I was dubious about going to a chiropractor, but in all honesty I can say I would definitely recommend Alex Bowling as he has done an excellent job for me.
